Transforming a Vegetable Trellis into a Ghost
Repurposing garden elements in various ways as the season evolves is a win for the environment and your storage, but especially your wallet! After a delightful brainstorming session with my neighbour about her epic plans, and offering her most of my spare white sheets and shovels, I realized that I too had tools left to create my own Halloween Ghost.
I couldn’t wait to get started!
I began the clean up for winter this month so the plant matter had all been pulled down from the Teepee Vegetable Trellis that we made in the spring. It was brought back to the front yard to serve as the structure for our giant ghost.
With the teepee serving as the structural base, the remainder of the build out was quite easy.
Filled a plastic shopping bag with other bags creating a ball shape. (leaves, a ball, blanket rolled up inside a bag etc could all work too).
Placed the ball shape above the teepee union to round out this area, forming a head.
Tossed sheets over. Fixed them in place with garden twine.
Cut 2 black eyes from craft felt and using a single simple stitch affixed them to the head.
Added a strobe light. In the spirit of repurposing items, considering using a bicycle light rather then purchasing a light specifically for halloween.
The easy setup, zero cost, and the first family to walk by, their reaction; I was sold. This teepee ghost will continue to make an appearance in future years too.
It is my goal with Buying Thyme to connect the community to nature and practice sustainability practices so we can better our patch of the ecosystem.
